Ganai Family

maker 2
The Ganai Family is a family from Bengal and they procure khadi for the label. The khadi is a sustainable fabric that is completely handmade on the loom. It takes about two to three months to make 100 meters of Khadi and the Ganai family’s efficiency has always been a great support for the label. With Khadi using no electricity and really less water, this process is very environmentally friendly and which is why the Ganai family’s contribution is a very important one for the brand values and the growth of the brand.

Gajsinghpura Village

tools
Gajsinghpura is a village which is about 20-30 kms from Jaipur. The people of this village are some of the warmest and most welcoming people ever. They have been a part of Maati’s family since the very beginning and have been loyal to the values the brand promotes. Rakesh ji, Radha ji, Meera ji are some of the people who work hard for the prints and samples for the label. A group of ten women are mainly involved with the sampling and printing work and Firoz ji is the man in charge of the dyeing of the fabrics. Since the label is very inclined towards natural dyes, Firoz ji is the best man for the job. He inherited the dyeing business from his father and hence is very dedicated to what he does as it has been passed down for generations in his family. All of these people not only help with the hands-on work but also help in ideation and core processes for the products. They are the main team behind the block printed fabrics used by the label.

Lakhavali Village

makers
The family of Motilalji Dangi from Lakhavali have recently joined the Maati family. His wife, Manauri ji along with Motilalji do the pattern cutting and sampling for the brand. They are also responsible for the stitching part. They live a very sustainable life and work with clusters to train women in the art of embroidery. On occasion, if needed, they also reach out to the cluster for help on Maati projects which demand embroidery of other handwork. They have a lot of clusters under their supervision and they help grow the local art of needlework and handwork. Although they have recently collaborated with Maati, their work is indispensable for the label and their determination to help these women in the clusters while keeping the local art alive, is what resonates with Maati’s purpose of supporting Indian textile forms while being sustainable and safe towards the environment.
