While doing household chores, around 15-20% of water is used for washing clothes. As the human
population grows faster, is depleting the earth’s finite supply of water. You need to strive to
conserve our scarce resources to set the road for the future of water conservation. To be a
responsible person you need to focus on little steps starting with your laundry. Here are some
useful ways to reduce water consumption while doing laundry.
The two ways of washing clothes at home are as follows:
1. Using a machine
If you want to use a machine make sure you choose the right one, go for a machine that has a high
energy efficiency rating to cut down the use of energy and water or you can buy a machine that
has water-saving features like eco setting or quick washing. The second most important thing to
keep in mind is the detergent that you use. Try going for detergents that you can use less and are
still very effective.
2. Hand washing
Now shedding light on steps to keep in mind while washing clothes by hand. The first step is to
always sort your clothes before doing the laundry, it helps to avoid color bleeding complications.
You can separate the pile using two simple concepts color and fabric, always separate the light
and dark colors, and then focus on the solidity of the garment for example light or thick.
Step two is to switch to medium-size buckets filled with warm water, use 2 of them will be used for soaking the
clothes with the detergent and the other will be used to rinse the clothes. By doing it this way it will
help you reduce the consumption of water.
Conserving water stands for responsible use of water. We need to focus on using it wisely because
if we don’t then it will adversely affect us, our ecosystem, and wildlife. If we save water we’re
saving our money because if we don’t then it will lead to a shortage of water which makes it more
expensive. So save it, we need it.
